Captain Celeste Dorage
Celeste grew up on the South Shore of L.I.N.Y., spending all her free time on the waters of Moriches Bay, Great South Bay and out east to Shinicock Inlet. “We fished those waters for fun, catching fluke, flounder, blowfish by the boat full (then a trash fish, now a Japanese delicacy), snapper, bluefish, black stripped bass.”

Fifteen years passed before she found herself in the fishing village of Cortez, Florida. Over the next 15 years, she would sail and fish the waters on the Gulf coast from Tampa Bay to Key West, including the Everglades, finding every “gunk hole” along the way.

“You catch a lot of Spanish Mackerel, trolling on a sail boat a couple of miles off shore.” “In the intercoastal waters, around Cortez and down to Sarasota Bay, you find everything, trout, snook, flounder, sheepshead, jack, ladyfish put up a real good fight being in the tarpon family. In Tampa Bay, we are finding pompano, bluefish, mackerel and Shark. Black Tip and Bonnet head seem to be everywhere.” “Grouper can be found on the reefs just off St. Pete Beach. But, for the keepers, everyone agrees, the pipeline is where you’ll find the keepers.

In addition to her “quest for fish” Celeste is a 50 Ton U.S.C.G. Master Captain and a certified ASA sailing instructor. She has delivered vessels on the waters from Tarpon Springs, Florida to Gloucester, Massachusetts.

“Sailing these waters has allowed me the time to learn how to find the fish, find the bait, watch what’s going on out there.”

“Living in Cortez all those years, well…… there’s a lot of fishermen there, I asked a lot of questions. I watched them go out, I watched them come in. I would try to fish with who ever I could. I learned a lot.”

I want to share my experience with anyone who would like to join me on the “SILVER SPOON”. I’ll teach you what I know while we will continue to explore!
